  Niobium (Nb) is a shiny gray metal with paramagnetism, belonging to 5 groups on the periodic table.

  The high purity niobium metal has high ductility, but it will harden with the increase of impurity content.

  Niobium has a very low capture cross section for thermal neutrons and is therefore of considerable use in the nuclear industry.

  Niobium is stable in air at room temperature, and not completely oxidized when red hot in oxygen. 

  It can be directly combined with sulfur, nitrogen and carbon at high temperature to form alloy with titanium, zirconium, hafnium and tungsten.
